Pronomi indefiniti e aggettivi indefiniti in inglese: guida completa con esempi

Pronomi indefiniti

SOME             +

NO / ANY        -

ANY                ?

EVERY           +

Persone

SOMEONE / SOMEBODY

There is someone waiting for you in reception.

NO ONE / NOBODY

No one is using the conference room at the moment.

ANY ONE / ANYBODY

We didn’t know anyone at the party.

Has anybody seen my phone? I can’t find it.

EVERYONE / EVERYBODY

Everyone at the new company was very kind to me.

Cose

SOMETHING

Let’s make something for lunch. I’m hungry.

NOTHING

There is nothing in this cupboard. It’s empty.

ANYTHING

Jamie hasn’t got anything to do.

Are you doing anything at the weekend?

EVERYTHING

Everything is ready for the party. We can relax.

Luoghi

SOMEWHERE

I’d like to go somewhere hot for my vacation this year.

NOWHERE

There’s nowhere fun to go in this village.

ANYWHERE

She doesn’t want to go anywhere this weekend. She’s too tired.

Do you know anywhere nice to have a picnic near here?

EVERYWHERE

You can find wonderful food everywhere in Italy.

Pronomi indefiniti e forma verbale singolare

Everyone speaks English at this school.

There is nothing left to do.

Was there anywhere open in town?

No- e any- a confronto

Come puoi vedere sopra, puoi costruire frasi negative usando i pronomi indefiniti che iniziano con no- o any-.

There was no one to help me set up the stand.

There wasn’t anyone to help me set up the stand.

Il significato è lo stesso. Tuttavia, i pronomi indefiniti con no- possono iniziare una frase, mentre quelli con any- no. Per esempio,

No one helped me set up the stand.

Someone/something/somewhere nelle domande

Come spiegato sopra, nelle domande usiamo normalmente le parole con any- (anyone, anything, anywhere). Tuttavia, nelle offerte e nelle richieste possiamo usare i pronomi indefiniti con ‘some-‘ (someone, something, somewhere). Per esempio,

Would you like something to drink?

Can someone help me sort out these files?

Do you want to eat somewhere near your house?

Anyone can apply for the job. (Whoever wants to apply can do so.)

What shall I bring to the party? – Bring anything you want. (Whatever thing.)

He’s happy to go anywhere on holiday. (Whatever place, it’s not important which)

Eccone alcune:

“Everybody Needs Somebody to love” – The Blues Brothers

“Somebody to Love” – Queen

“Someone Like You” – Adele

“Somewhere Over the Rainbow” – from the Wizard of Oz

“Nowhere Man” – The Beatles

“Something” – The Beatles

“Nothing Compares 2 U” – Sinead O’Connor

“(Anything you want) You Got It” – Roy Orbison
